Santa Fe Art Institute Partnership
LAAW and the Santa Fe Art Institute partnered for the 2017 SFAI Equal Justice Residency. This dynamic theme provided a basis for an ongoing dialogue and engagement between SFAI and the LAAW program throughout the semester. LAAW selected three SFAI Resident artists/collectives to travel during Field Investigations in order for each to pursue bioregional research and become a part of the LAAW cohort. These artists included Melisse Watson, Syrus Marcus Ware, Gil Ngolé, Su-Ying Lee and Xenia Benivolski. SFAI invited LAAW artists to a discussion and potluck with other residents at the institute. LAAW artists also presented at SFAI140, an evening of 20 talks, 140 seconds each. In the spring of 2018, LAAW students will collaborate with residents of SFAI to create a one-day exhibition based on explorations of this year’s theme Equal Justice.
