2012 HIGHLIGHTS
journal entry
Eric Cook
Muley Point, Utah
September 12, 2012
The stillness was numbing, soothing, and serene. A fairly strong wind blows from the southwest, but my shelter is solid and I am not concerned. I crawl in and get situated. The fire certainly did the job, I had to shed layers because it was so hot inside. I have my camera set up outside right now, shutter open, aimed at the North Star. Hopefully it will turn into some nice circular star trails. The roof of my cave is so low I cannot sit up. It is a bit claustrophobic, but a solid shelter without a doubt. I was admittedly nervous about spending a night here, but I am really glad I stuck to it and decided to stay out here. These are the moments that define us, taking action against doubt and negative thoughts, breaking down barriers, testing oneself, carrying on stronger.
