JOURNAL ENTRY

Alexandra Codlin
Spiral Jetty – Promontory Point, UT
September 08, 2004

Spiral Jetty is much smaller than what I imagined. The vastness of the landscape in which it lays dwarfs the physical presence of the work, at least from this hillside vantage point. There is no cropped image focused just on the spiral itself like the official documentation of the work. Rather the Jetty is just a tiny detail within an enormous landscape; another blatant misunderstanding in recreating its context from an image in a book, as compared to experiencing the work in person.
